Mapping solar panel temperature results onto the structural model
This is an objective-based lab. Instead of being provided a list of instructions, you are simply provided a scenario and problem statement to solve. Please work to solve the scenario of each activity listed below.
Scenario: You are given two satellite assembly Simulation files. The first file contains a solved thermal solution that contains one predefined mapping thermal association zone constraint for solar panels. The second Simulation file contains the structural model. You will map the temperature distribution of the four solar panels onto the structural model. You will create a mapping solution in the structural Simulation file, create mapping target set and thermal target zone constraints, solve the mapping solution, and display the temperature results on a structural model.
Questions: How to map temperature results of the thermal model onto a structural model?
Instructions:
- In the satellite_assembly_mapping folder, open HESSI_Satellite_thermal_sim1.sim and explore the predefined Mapping solar panels constraint. This constraint of type Thermal Association Zone defines a region in the thermal model, that will be mapped to a corresponding region in the structural model.
- Display the nodal temperature results in the last increment for the four solar panel. These temperatures will be mapped onto the structural model.
- In the satellite_assembly_mapping folder, open the HESSI_Satellite_structural_sim1.sim assembly structural Simulation file.
- Create a mapping solution and request the creation of a Nastran solution during mapping.
- Specify the source model results file and output time for the last increment of the thermal model.
- Apply a Mapping Target Set constraint to the bottom faces of the four solar panels to constraint the mapping only onto this region.
- Apply a Thermal Target Zone constraint to the bottom faces of the four solar panels, that matches the Thermal Association Zone type of the Mapping constraint, which was created in the thermal solution to only map temperatures on solar panels and not the rest of the structural model.
- Solve the mapping solution.
-
Display the temperatures mapped on a structural model. Notice, that only the
temperatures on the bottom faces of the solar panels are available. These
temperatures can be used as a thermal pre-load for the structural model.
