Spalart-Allmaras model

The flow solver applies a specific boundary conditions for the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model for all types of wall treatments. It also computes the near wall vorticity magnitude for smooth walls as well as for standard and hybrid wall functions.

For all types of wall treatments, the flow solver uses the following boundary condition for modified viscosity at the wall:

Smooth walls

The flow solver calculates the near wall vorticity magnitude, Ω, in the same way as for the rest of the fluid domain using the equation that is described in Spalart-Allmaras model.

Standard and hybrid wall functions

The flow solver calculates the near wall vorticity magnitude, Ω, as follows:

where:

  • τw is the wall shear stress. For more information, see Turbulent boundary layer.
  • μeff is the effective viscosity, μeff = μ + μt, where μ is the dynamic viscosity and μt is the turbulent viscosity.
