Conductance matrix for wedge and hexahedron elements
Wedge elements are divided into 3 pyramids and 2 tetrahedra by connecting the CG of each wedge to its corners. Hexahedra elements are divided into 6 pyramid sub-elements by connecting the CG of the hexahedron to its corners.
Examples show subdivision of wedge and hexahedron elements.
For each sub-element a conductance matrix is created that is similar to the procedure described for triangles and tetrahedra elements, with the following exceptions:
- For each external face in wedges and hexahedra, conductances are computed at the CG of the face.
- For each internal face, the boundary condition with matching heat fluxes is used.
The resulting size of the conductance matrix is 10 conductances for wedge elements and 15 conductances for hexahedral elements.
When the software uses the default setting, conductance between the CG and boundary elements are balanced by:
where Ai is the area of the boundary element.
