Creation of conductance between connected sub-elements

Sub-elements are considered connected when they share common nodes along an edge or a face.

The thermal solver supports the following element connectivity:

  • Lump mass elements connected to beam elements.
  • Beam elements connected to lump mass or other beam elements.
  • Shell elements connected to lump mass elements, beam elements, or shell elements.
  • Solid elements connected to planar elements or other solid elements.

The conductance between a sub-element that is connected to only one other sub-element is defined as:

where:

  • Gij is the conductance between sub-elements i and j.
  • Gi is the conductance of sub-element i.
  • Gj is the conductance of sub-element j.

When a sub-element is connected to more than one other sub-element, the conductances between the sub-elements are computed using the star-delta transformation as:

where n is the number of connected sub-elements.
